Long Bright River by Liz Moore, author of The Girl on the Train for Penguin Random House Audio.

Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2020 by: Entertainment WeeklyThe New York TimesVogueMarie ClaireWashington Post, PopSugarBustleForbes, and more!

Two sisters travel the same streets, though their lives couldn’t be more different. Then one of them goes missing.

In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don’t speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling.

Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey’s district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit – and her sister – before it’s too late.

Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters’ childhood and adolescence, Long Bright River is at once heart-pounding and heart-wrenching: a gripping suspense novel that is also a moving story of sisters, addiction, and the formidable ties that persist between place, family, and fate.

No matter how much you love your child, there will be moments filled with frustration, anger, and even desperation. There will also be questions: Why does my four-year-old deliberately lie to me? Summer/Fall 2018

The Places I Stopped on the Way Home: A Memoir of Chaos and Grace by Meg Fee was so personal for me. Weaving together her joys and sorrows, expectations and uncertainties, aspirations and realities, the result is an exhilarating collection of essays about love and friendship, failure and suffering, and above all hope. Fee gets it so right describing what it’s like as an actress in your 20’s living in New York City, trying to find yourself. I know because that was me! Thank you Tantor Audio.

No One Tells You This by Glynnis MacNicol writes a story that we rarely get to read in our culture:  What if the story didn’t end with a baby or a husband?  What if you were a successful woman the way you wanted to define it?  Glynnis writes about the eve of her 40th year, where she was terrified to step into this new decade, only to find that she already had the life she wanted to live, despite what society says.  Glynnis and I have been friends for over 20 years and I was honored that Simon & Schuster gave me the opportunity to bring her writing to life.

From Lisa Wingate, bestselling author of Before We Were Yours comes a story of second chances and the importance of family. Tending Roses is one of those novels that stays with you long after you finish, and reminds you that there is nothing in life like the power of family bonds and the willingness to start over.

Summer 2017
Allyson was interviewed about her Audiobook career for Fan Girl Nation Magazine! Check out the great interview here.

Winter/Spring 2017

Allyson got back to work after having baby to continue Jenn McKinlay’s Library Lovers Mysteries Series for Dreamscape Media. Allyson jumped back into the world of Briar Creek with Better Late Than Never.

Then Allyson had the good fortune of recording THE PERFECT book after having a baby to record The Fifth Trimester: The Working Mom’s Guide to Style, Sanity, and Big Success After Baby by Lauren Smith Brody for Penguin Random House Audio.
Whether you’re in the final stages of pregnancy or hitting the panic button on your last day of leave, The Fifth Trimester is your one-stop shop for the honest, funny, and comforting tips, to-do lists, and take-charge strategies you’ll need to embrace your new identity as a working parent and set yourself up for success.

Another fantastic book for parents is Becoming Brilliant: What Science Tells Us About Raising Successful Children.
Publisher’s summary: In just a few years, today’s children and teens will forge careers that look nothing like those that were available to their parents or grandparents.
Becoming Brilliant offers solutions that parents can implement right now. Backed by the latest scientific evidence, this book introduces the “6Cs”: collaboration, communication, content, critical thinking, creative innovation, and confidence, along with ways parents can nurture their children’s development in each area. Thanks to Deyan Audio for this one.

The next installment for the Mundy’s Landing Series by Wendi Corsi Staub is Bone White: Book 3 from Harper Audio and Bee Audio. The town of Mundy’s Landing was founded on a horrifying secret, but stark white bones of the dead never lie.”We shall never tell.” Spurred by the cryptic phrase in a centuries-old letter, Emerson Mundy travels to her ancestral hometown to trace her past. In Mundy’s Landing, she connects with long lost relatives – and a closet full of skeletons going back centuries. In the year since former NYPD Detective Sullivan Leary solved the historic Sleeping Beauty Murders, she – like the village itself – has made a fresh start. But someone has unearthed blood-drenched secrets in a disembodied skull, and is hacking away at the Mundy family tree, branch by branch.

Then Allyson had the wonderful opportunity to record The Lost Letter by Jillian Cantor from Penguin Random House Audio, along with narrators George Newbern, Betsy Struxness and Jennifer Rubins. Have tissues nearby, this is a tearjerker. A historical novel of love and survival inspired by real resistance workers in World War II Austria and the mysterious love letter that connects generations of Jewish families. A heartbreaking, heartwarming story for fans of The Nightingale, Lilac Girls, and Sarah’s Key.

Other highlights include Running with Raven from Tantor Audio and Highbridge Audio.. An inspiring story about one man’s tenacity inspiring many. Raven Kraft has changed the lives of thousands who have run with him – many of them hundreds of times. From all 50 states and dozens of countries, across all age groups and backgrounds, they come to run with Raven, and in the process find friendship, inspiration – and a nickname.
And The End of Men by Karen Rinaldi, along with narrators Brittany Pressley , Angela Dawe , Rachel Fulginiti. The novel that inspired the acclaimed Rebecca Miller film Maggie’s Plan, starring Julianne Moore, Ethan Hawke, and Greta Gerwig.
Isabel, Anna, Beth, and Maggie are women who aren’t afraid to take it all. Whether spearheading a pregnancy lingerie company, conspiring to return a husband to his ex-wife, lusting after an old lover while in a satisfying marriage, or trying to balance motherhood and work – they are sexy, determined, and not looking for a simple happily ever after.

The Rest of 2016

Allyson and her husband welcomed a little girl in August!

Here are some highlights of “relatively” new releases from Summer into Winter of 2016:

Allyson was honored to narrate Olympic Gold Medalist Abby Wambach’s memoir, Forward: Teen Readers Edition. In Forward, Abby recounts her own decisions, wins, and losses and the pivotal moments that helped her become the world-class athlete and leader she is today. Wambach’s book goes beyond the soccer field to reveal a soulful person grappling with universal questions about how we can live our best lives and become our truest selves. Written with honesty and heart, Forward is an inspiring blueprint for individual growth and a rousing call to action.

Allyson became a fan of Sheila Heti’s after she recorded her book, How Should A Person Be? Written through mostly transcribed conversations, Sheila, a 20-something playwright, finds herself unsure of how to live and create and reeling from a failed marriage. When Margaux, a talented painter and free spirit, and Israel, a sexy and depraved artist, enter her life, Sheila hopes that through close – sometimes too close – observation of her new friend, her new lover, and herself, she might regain her footing in art and life.

Run the World: My 3,500-Mile Journey Through Running Cultures Around the Globe is a delightful memoir from elite marathoner and Olympic hopeful Becky Wade about the story of her yearlong exploration of diverse global running communities from England to Ethiopia – nine countries, 72 host families, and over 3,500 miles of running – investigating unique cultural approaches to the sport and revealing the secrets to the success of runners all over the world.

Being a Yogi herself, Allyson was excited to narrate, Ally Hamilton’s Yoga’s Healing Power: Looking Inward for Change, Growth, and Peace. Ally explores the eight limbs of yoga practice that are integral to the healing process. Facing yourself and doing the work to heal takes bravery and strength, but it’s absolutely possible. Yoga’s Healing Power shows you how to overcome patterns that aren’t serving you and find sustained peace.

Spring 2016
Next up: Monsters: A Love Story by Liz Kay from Penguin Random House Audio. A unique love story set against the backdrop of the Hollywood movie making machine. Stacey Lane feels like a monster. Tommy DeMarco might be one. Since her husband died eight months ago, Stacey’s been a certified mess – a poet who can’t write anymore, a good mother who feels like she’s failing her kids. She’s been trying to redefine herself, to find new boundaries. Tommy has no respect for boundaries. A surprisingly well-read A-list Hollywood star, Tommy’s fallen in love with Stacey’s novel-in-verse, a feminist reimagining of Frankenstein, no less.

By the Numbers by Jen Lancaster from Penguin Random House Audio. Allyson loved narrating this delightful story! The writing is superb and laugh out loud funny! Actuary Penny Sinclair has a head for business, and she always makes rational decisions. Knowing that 60 percent of spouses cheat and 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, she wasn’t too surprised when her husband had an affair. (That he did so with a woman their daughter’s age? Well, that part did sting a bit.) She just made sure she got everything in the divorce, including their lovely old Victorian house. And as soon as her younger daughter has her hipster-fabulous wedding in the backyard, she’s trading it in for a condo in downtown Chicago….

Allyson had the honor of co-narrating Jennifer Haigh’s fictional story of Gas Fracking in the United States, Heat and Light. A powerfully written novel, the story is told from all the different perspectives of the people involved in Fracking; from the land owners, to the gas companies, to the doctors treating the victims of this dangerous practice. Heat and Light is an important reflection of what fracking is doing to our planet. Want to know more about fracking? Check out Josh Fox’s website and documentaries Gasland and Gasland 2.

Girls on Fire by Robin Wasserman, read by Cassandra Campbell, Simone Lewis and Allyson Ryan is out and available on Audible, published by Harper Audio. On Halloween 1991, a popular high school basketball star ventures into the woods near Battle Creek, Pennsylvania, and disappears. Three days later he’s found with a bullet in his head and a gun in his hand – a discovery that sends tremors through this conservative community, already unnerved by growing rumors of Satanic worship in the region. In the wake of this incident, bright but lonely Hannah Dexter is befriended by Lacey Champlain, a dark-eyed, Cobain-worshiping bad influence in lip gloss and Doc Martens. Allyson reads the role of Hannah Dexter.

Winter 2016

The Lifeboat Clique by Kathy Parks is out! Now forget her… Picture instead a pregnant, 16-year-old, manipulative prodigy. She is shoved into a dirty van and, from the first moment of her kidnapping, feels a calm desire for two things: to save her unborn son and to exact merciless revenge. An intense and fantastic ride.

From Audible comes the audiobook of the incredible real life Memoir, Buried Memories: Katie Beers’s Story: In 1992, nine-year-old Katie Beers was kidnapped by a family friend and locked in an underground box for 17 days. Katie has now come forward to tell the story that created a national media storm as reporters uncovered the truth about her prekidnapping life of neglect and sexual abuse and the details of her rescue. She shares how this experience and the recent death of her kidnapper, John Esposito, has affected her life.
Allyson narrates the experience from the perspective of Carolyn Gusoff, who reported on the case during and after.

Allyson had the honor of narrating both of Leigh Byrne’s moving and poignant real life memoirs, Call Me Tuesday and Call Me Cockroach out now for Audible. The story of a girl whose mother, after undergoing a personality change after a family tragedy, unleashes unspeakable abuse on her with misplaced blame. Beautifully written and inspiring to all those who have undergone familial abuse.
